Visit of OCAD University's President Ana Serrano Strengthens International Collaboration with NTUA

The President of OCAD University in Canada, Ana Serrano, visited the National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA) on November 15. The NTUA delegation, led by the Vice President, Prof. Dr. Chia-Cheng Chen, includes the Dean of International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Yu-Ling Chao, the Head of the Department of Sculpture, Prof. Dr. Yun-Hsin Lai, the Head of the Department of Multimedia and Animation Arts, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chun-I Lee, the faculty member of the Department of Fine Arts, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ying-Cheng Tsai, the Director of International Cooperation of OIA, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ya-Ting Fan.

The universities established sister school status in 2021 and have maintained a profound partnership since their initial meeting at the 2019 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) conference. Collaborations include participation in the INTAC Sustainability Jam, a global initiative addressing environmental challenges. In the past year, both institutions organized the President forum on arts education and innovation, and the NTUA's former president visited OCAD University in June 2023, strengthening the bilateral relationship.

The visit of President Ana Serrano focused on future international exchange and collaboration, with an emphasis on cooperation with institutions in the Indo-Pacific region. During the meeting, both parties delved into diverse collaboration models such as workshops, summer schools, joint exhibitions, collaborative research, and co-creation. President Ana Serrano also shared unique insights into the planning of interdisciplinary exhibitions. Following the conclusion of the meeting, Vice President Chen accompanied President Ana Serrano on a tour of the teaching and research facilities of NTUA, including the Motion Picture Department, the Department of Sculpture, the Department of Architecture Art Conservation, and the NTUA Our Museum. This visit served as a testament to the research and teaching achievements of the university.

The visit aims not only to deepen collaboration but also to facilitate interaction between faculties and students. President Ana Serrano engages with the NTUA's academic community, sharing her unique perspectives on art and design. The exchange is anticipated to foster a deeper level of collaboration between the two institutions, collectively advancing art education and innovation.

It is Canada's oldest and largest institution for art and design education, ranking among the top three out of over forty similar universities in North America. Many of Canada's leading artists and design experts have taught and furthered their education at this university, earning it its reputation as Canada's "University of Imagination."
