The Korean Godmother of Musical Theatre, Professor Yi, Tae Won, Visits NTUA to Promote Interdisciplinary Artistic Collaboration

The "2024 NTUA International Arts Camp - Musical Theatre Master Class" successfully invited Professor Yi, Tae Won from the Musical Department of Myongji University in Korea for a week-long mentorship. Professor Yi, holds a prestigious position in the Korean musical theatre scene and is revered as the "Godmother of Musical Theatre" in Korea. She gained international recognition for her iconic performances in The Last Empress and Mamma Mia! and has also nurtured many K-pop artists who are now actively performing in Korea's entertainment industry and worldwide.

At the opening ceremony, the Dean of International Affairs Office, Professor Chang, Fei-Man, along with distinguished guests including the Head, Chen, Yan-Ting at the Department of Drama and the Professor, Chao, Yu-Ling at the Graduate Institute of Transdisciplinary Performing Arts, attended to offer their blessings and expressed hope that students would greatly benefit from this valuable learning opportunity.

Professor Yi provided comprehensive guidance on musical theatre, covering aspects such as character inner exploration, vocal techniques, core body movement, and stage performance, significantly enhancing students' acting skills and artistic refinement. Students enjoyed one-on-one coaching and learned the rich body language of musical theatre in a relaxed and joyful classroom atmosphere.

In addition to evaluating the performances of students from the Drama, Music, Radio and Television, and Motion Picture departments, etc., the final presentation featured a special segment choreographed by the Graduate Institute of Transdisciplinary Performing Arts Ph.D. student, Steven Dou. This segment showcased the classic song "Dancing Queen" from the musical Mamma Mia! Professor Yi also invited NTUA faculty members to join the performance, adding a special collaborative element to the event. Professor Yi also surprised the students with solo performances of "Golden Stars" and "Fly Me to the Moon," inspiring them to overcome their mental barriers and fully embrace their artistic journey.

This workshop provided students with a rare opportunity to interact with the internationally renowned artist. Through practical experience and mentorship, they achieved significant advancements in their artistic performance and realized innovative breakthroughs in interdisciplinary collaboration.
