On August 23, 2023, we had the honor of welcoming Mr. Tse Kam Po, the Deputy Head of Media Design and Technology in School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts, Ms. Chan Wing Kit, the Lecturer in Sound, Mr. Wu Dave, the Lecturer in Sound and Media Production and two students from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Art (HKAPA) to National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA). The reception was hosted by Professor Yu-Ling Chao, the Dean of the Office of International Affairs, Professor Jao-Hsun Tseng, the Dean of College of Performing Arts and the Head of Center for Sound Arts and Acoustics Research (CSAAR), Assistant Professor Hai-Ting Liao from the Department of Music, Mr. Chi-You Dean, the manager and Ms. Shin-Yi Wu, project assistant of CSAAR attended as well.
The visit can be traced back to a video conference held in December 2022, where HKAPA expressed a keen interest in our CSAAR and sought further opportunities for collaboration. The representatives from both institutions introduced the respective developments of their sound centers and schools during the conference and explored future collaborations and opportunities in the fields of sound, multimedia and technology arts. Professor Chao and Professor Tseng accompanied the esteemed guests on a tour of our ambisonic sound space and sound studio in CSAAR, as well as the technology art theater in the Innovation Center for Art and Technology (ICAT), showcasing our research and results in the field of sound and technology arts.
In the afternoon, there was an academic exchange between the faculty of both institutions. Mr. Tse presented the performance achievements of the Department of Media Design and Technology. He mentioned that the school organizes an annual Sunset Concert, where students take the lead in organizing everything from stage lighting and sound installations to visual designs, photography, and band selection. Furthermore, he shared several interdisciplinary collaborative works with different artistic groups. During the meeting, representatives from both institutions engaged in inspiring discussions and reached a preliminary consensus on reciprocal visits and exchanges, joint performance of student works. We look forward to the fruitful outcomes of this enhanced collaboration between the two institutions. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all the academic departments and centers for their invaluable support.
