Shui-Lung Ma was the first Taiwanese composer to give a complete solo performance in the Lincoln Center in New York. He is former president of Taipei National University of the Arts, as well as head and professor of the music department. He was winner of a Fulbright Academic Scholarship and the King Star Medal of the 3rd National Arts Award in the Music Category.
