Introduction
1. Education Objectives:
Art and culture are crucial indictors reflecting our social
environment and concrete aspects of our life. Contemporary art
can only develop in depth depending on far-sighted cultural
policy planning and efficient management. The former is based on
the study of contemporary trends, their theories, as well as
their potential development through the dialectics of thoughts,
policies and regulations analyses; whereas the latter is founded
upon an awareness of art and history, practical training in
market operations, as well as inspirational perceptiveness to
creativity and design. In this light, our graduate school both
reflects and responds to the trends and demands of contemporary
and future artistic developments at domestic, regional and
global levels. The school has planned courses accordingly in
both theory and practice, in order to encourage students to
raise questions, understand cultural phenomena, tackle issues in
interpretation, and rationally develop a critical approach. The
students are finally required to write a thesis involving
insightful and multiple perspectives, from both their
theoretical work and action research . Art management and
cultural policy are the two core elements of the master and
doctoral programs of our graduate school. They compliment each
other, providing the students with an overall picture of art and
culture in relation to management and policy issues. It is
important to stress that the graduate school of Art-Culture
Policy and Management of National Taiwan University of Arts
provides an educational and research environment that emphasizes
both action and theoretical work.
2. School Structure: (1) Master program (2) Doctorate program
3. Features:
The university’s art museum and exhibition center are precious
teaching resources for the study of management and cultural
policy, and our graduate school uses them as experimental bases.
We also bring in experts from particular art institutes and
scholars from outside to develop various specialized art
management courses. Besides, we equally emphasize on studying
domestic and foreign cultural policies, regulations and
phenomena, and on analyzing the projects and operations of art
institutions. To complement these, the school is very much
concerned by stressing the importance of critical studies of art
practices and their theories, in order to foster multitalented
learning that will give rise to innovative cultural
perspectives.
The curriculum is designed according to five main fields:
(1) Analysis and criticism of cultural policies and regulations
(2) Culture and art: discourse and methods
(3) Art management and administration: theory and practice
(4) Promotion, development and management of art projects
(5) Planning and marketing the cultural and creative industry
In addition, our graduate school actively promotes the
one-certificate-one-license system, which encourages students to
apply for specialized management certificates in order to
improve their competence in the field.
